The glorious ‘VBC Rides’ cycling team, with riders from a variety of the local mills. We’re in front of the Oropa monastery, at the end of the glorious climb from Biella that was made famous by Pantani in the 1999 Giro: his chain came off at the bottom of the climb yet he managed to win the stage, overtaking 60 riders on his way up.
Below: on the other side, contemplating the descent and the climb up to the Bielmonte ski station.
Nice read! Didn’t know you were into cycling as well… The only occasion I’m willing to wear man-made materials 😉
Agree with L Cool B. This is an interesting topic and more of this would be good. How did you find the ride? Which is your bike and why? Enjoying the rest of the blog too. Regards
Thanks. I don’t intend to ever turn this into a cycling blog, but it’s nice to inject a little of life outside clothing now and again.
The ride was stunningly beautiful. Biella to Bielmonte, via Oropa. About 85km, with a total climb of around 1800m I think.
I borrowed a bike from one of the guys, so none of these is my bike. I ride a Bianchi Siempre. Carbon, nice bike. Though the biggest thing that makes a difference with a bike is getting value for money and being fitted on it properly – not the brand.
